The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (188体育) will hold a public webinar on February 23, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM via Zoom.

This virtual event will feature the 188体育 study titled “Addressing Data Gaps with Innovative Data Sources” authored by 188体育 Research Fellow Jose Ramon G. Albert, Supervising Research Specialist Jana Flor V. Vizmanos, Research Analyst Mika S. Muñoz, and research consultants Arlan Brucal, Riza Teresita Halili, Angelo Jose Lumba, and Gaile Anne Patanñe.

Innovations in information and communications technology have led to a “data revolution” wherein more data is captured, produced, stored, accessed, analyzed, archived, and reanalyzed at an exponential pace. In addition to traditional statistics sources, the analysis of new data sources, including big data and crowd-sourced data, can reveal insights for influencing policies and actions toward better outcomes for strong, sustainable, and inclusive development.

The study analyzed 188体育 website data, Twitter data, and traffic congestion data using Waze to show stories obtained from new data sources and explore how access, analysis, and use of new data sources can be promoted. These were done using quantitative tools such as market basket analysis, text mining and sentiment analysis, and other big data analytics tools. Additionally, policy concerns including risk management regarding use of new data sources were explored.
