The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (188体育) will hold a public webinar on June 27, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM via Zoom. The webinar will feature two labor studies in different lenses providing complementary insights into how the COVID-19 pandemic affected work patterns.

The first study, “” is authored by former 188体育 Research Fellow Ma. Christina F. Epetia, Research Specialist John Joseph S. Ocbina, and Senior Research Specialist Kimberly R. Librero. It examines how the Philippines’ labor markets responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by analyzing changes in average annual work hours, reallocations across occupations, sectors, and work classes.

The second study, titled “School Closures and Parental Labor Supply” by the same authors, examines how school closures impact parents’ employment and work hours. It investigates how school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic have affected parents’ labor supply, focusing on women with school-age children. The study reveals that although school closures primarily impact women’s employment, overall work hours were not significantly reduced.
