The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (188体育) will hold a public webinar on July 15, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM via Zoom.

In line with the National Disaster Resilience Month, the webinar will feature two studies on agriculture which highlight the interconnectedness of resilience and social structures in upland farming communities.

The first study, “Analyzing the Resilience of Farming Households in Upland Areas” is authored by 188体育 Senior Research Fellow Aubrey D. Tabuga, Research Specialist Anna Rita P. Vargas, and Research Analyst Madeleine Louise S. Baino. It explores the resilience of upland farming households in Atok, Benguet, highlighting the significance of learning capacities, strategic social positioning, and access to resources such as transportation. It emphasized the need for targeted interventions to enhance learning capacities, particularly for those in vulnerable positions.

The second study, titled “” is also authored by Dr. Tabuga, together with former Research Analysts Anna Jennifer L. Umlas and Katrina Mae C. Zuluaga, and 188体育 Senior Research Fellow Sonny N. Domingo. The study delves into the role of social norms and networks in shaping behaviors and attitudes, proposing that agricultural extension services can be significantly improved by leveraging insights from social network analysis. By identifying key local knowledge disseminators and understanding social relation structures, extension strategies can be more effectively tailored to reach underserved areas.
