Climate change poses an unprecedented existential threat to humanity, with rising temperatures and extreme weather events threatening to destabilize vital ecosystems and human societies across the globe. The intensifying pattern of global warming and changing precipitation is creating more frequent and severe climate events that threaten agriculture, water resources, and disaster preparedness, with the greatest impact falling on vulnerable populations. The Philippines faces unprecedented climate vulnerability, ranking highest in exposure to climate risk according to the 2024 World Risk Index. Without effective mitigation measures, projected economic damages in the Philippines could reach up to 7.6 percent of GDP by 2030 and 13.6 percent of GDP by 2040 (World Bank, 2022).
